Everyone is invited to join our Yiddish short story reading group beginning on Tuesday, July 7th from 7:00-8:00 p.m. Bring a hot glass of tea, or beverage of your choice, and gather around Zoom to listen to stories told over 6 consecutive Tuesdays. Here’s how each session will flow: we’ll start by introducing each writer, provide some historical and literary context, then read the story, and follow with a lively conversation. We’d like to explore how these stories of the past may be relevant to our lives now and everyone is welcome to read. These are the stories we will hear:
"The Abducted Princess" by Rabbi Nahman; "Gimpel the Fool” by I.B. Singer; "Bontshe the Silent" by I.L. Peretz; "At the Mill" by Fradel Shtok; "Scenes on a Bare Canvas” by Blume Lempel: and "Baranovitsh Station" by Shalom Aleichem. Note: All stories will be read in English.
