2020 Annual Meeting
Cemetery Committee Report

First, the committee wishes to thank Rhonda Cohen for continuing for yet another year in the role of co-Chair. We also want to welcome Ron Tolin as a now volunteer member.  We are grateful that he brings his long experience with cemetery management and knowledge of the membership to the work of the committee.  We also welcome Beebee Horowitz as a new member this year.

This year there have been four interments, the same number as last year. We have continued to utilize a new section of the cemetery land, which was cleared of trees several years ago, while also using plots that had earlier been reserved in the older section. We expect that the cleared land should be usable for many years.

Cemetery-related income does not come under the auspices of the Cemetery Committee. It consists of burial fees, perpetual care fees and donations, and is closely related to the burial activity for the year.  It is reported here for informational purposes only.  Income for the past year was $10,000.

The cemetery expenses are mainly landscaping and water management, are relatively consistent and predictable from year to year.  Expense for the past year was $11,864.

We have begun several new initiatives this year. One is an informal survey of our land use and projection of our capacity going forward.  Another is a review and updating of our database, which will help give us a chronological history of our yearly burial rates. A third initiative is the project of entering our cemetery data into digital form.  This will be a backup to our paper maps and spread sheets and will also give us better reporting and communication among committee members and MVHC leadership.

These steps will also help inform our ongoing review of burial policy and rates.

Respectfully, on behalf of the Cemetery Committee:
Rhonda Cohen, co-Chair
