Social Action Committee Wants You!

SAC has some exciting programs coming up, including a talk in June from a senior architect in the planning department of Jerusalem and several unusual events in the fall. We would love it if you join us! Contact person: Anita Hotchkiss, anitah80@gmail.com.

Ageless Matters

The Ageless Matters Committee is committed to helping our Hebrew Center become a more compassionate community, to establish an atmosphere within our center where we share joys and simchas in times of difficulty provide support and consolation to those who require it. Here are some ways we can get and give support: - Call if you need help!

  • Transportation - for doctors appointments, rides to services, transportation for children to and from religious school because of an emergency. Please call Rhoda Diamond at 508-645-9608.
  • Shopping or anything you might need if you are unable to get out - Bonnie George at 645-3214.
  • Pet care assistance- Joyce Brigish at 508-696-7424.
  • Visit the sick, grieving and those who might wish company - Rhoda Diamond at 508-645-9608.
  • Meal preparation or delivery - Nancy Salon Nunes 508-693-1922.
  • Helping children of our Hebrew School with Hebrew lessons - Bonnie George 645-3214.

Development

Thanks to the generosity of those who contributed to the First Annual Challenge Appeal and to those who contributed to the Summer Institute Series, we were able to complete projects and begin projects which have enhanced the beauty of the MVHC.

Completed Projects

  • A new mahogany deck adding an additional 150 square feet.
  • Interior painting- in process now
  • New heavy duty garbage bins
  • Installation of an accordion door between the two classrooms, creating a multipurpose space

Future Projects

  • Installation of new handrails
  • New handicap doors
  • Exterior carpentry and painting
  • New fence for the playground
  • Pruning of trees away from building
  • Gutters

Program Committee

The Program Committee ended the month of August with five fabulous events following the close of the excellent Summer Institute series of speakers and movies. On August 6th, Joan Nathan held her book signing and bread baking class, on August 19, Marjory and Robert Potts presented their movie, "Frances Perkins, You May Call her Madame Secretary", August 22, Nora Guthrie spoke about her father, Woody Guthrie, "Holy Ground" the Yiddish Connection". On August 26, Robert Brustein read his piece "Puttin on the Spritz" Humor in Jewish Entertainment and we closed the month with Alan Dershowitz' reading and book signing of his latest book " Trials of Zion". Each event was well attended and sponsored by the Program Committee, and in part by the Development Committee. We thank the Smith's, Hersh's and Cohn's for their partial sponsorship of the Nora Guthrie's program and Samuel Feldman for his sponsorship of the Brustein program.
